Breviary. Invitatorium. Gothic minuscule in brown ink. Instructions in red ink. Bifolio: left page trimmed, right page nearly complete. Seven (alternating red and blue) 2-line long initials appear on the recto of the second page. Smaller and larger writing in different hands appears on the pages. Verso has alternating red and blue initials as well. Writing on both sides. Metal point ruling.

Legal document and related letters pertaining to King Edward VII's appointment of Henry Sutton as one of the justices of the High Court of Justice. Letter 1: Paper letter and envelope from the Crown office, House of Lords notifying Mr. Sutton that he is going to be appointed as justice. It asks for a check for fees and taxes relating to his appointment. Print with manuscript additions. Embossed seal of the House of Lords Crown office is at the top. Bifolio, writing on the recto of the first page only. Envelope has a piece of green ribbon attached, a stamp that reads "The Lord Chancellor, and a flap embossed with a seal. Letter 2: Signed affirmation that Henry Sutton pledges allegiance to King Edward and swears to serve as one of the justices of the High Court of Justice. Mostly printed with manuscript additions in metallic ink. Two paragraphs. Writing on recto only. Accompanying envelope contains a seal of the Royal Court of Justice. Official document: Document sealed by King Edward VII appointing Henry Sutton as a justice of the High Court of Justices. Top, right, and left edges contain printed allegorical images and the royal coat of arms in black ink. Edward the Seventh by the Grace of God" is printed in large, black ink letters. Some phrases such as "to hold" and "witness" appear in larger, bolder letters. Printed red ink ruling. Bottom of the document is folded up and secured with green ribbon. The red wax seal of King Edward VII is attached by means of red and gold yarn and is contained in a 1 sided metal container. On the obverse of the seal, Edward sits on his throne with a scepter. The reverse of the seal pictures him seated on a horse. All of these objects were in a red box with gold outline that has the royal coat of arms on the lid. A key to the box still exists (inside).

Legal document. Indenture regarding the sale of land on Darlington Street, West Chester, Pennsylvania from John and Maria Rutter to Emmer Townsend for $584.58. On the left of the page, five thin, vertical, reddish-brown lines separate the body of the document from the margin. A single, reddish-brown line appears on the right side of the page. Document begins with "This Indenture" in 4 cm tall, decorative, printed black letters. After the introductory portion naming the date, location, and parties involved, a gap is filled with a diagonal reddish-brown line to consume the space that does not contain writing. Below this is a portion of printed legal language, followed by a handwritten description of the property. A diagonal reddish-brown line fills the space that does not contain writing. More printed legal language and manuscript additions follow. At the bottom of the document, four sections appear. 1) A section signed by Abel Darlington and M./N. (?) Whitehead stating that they sealed and delivered the document. 2) A section regarding the receipt of payment. This is blank. 3) A section stating that Abel Darlington pulled Maria apart from her husband to ensure that she independently agreed with the sale, signed by Abel Darlington. 4) A section signed by John Rutter with a stamped or printed seal containing the cursive initials "L.S." The verso contains the number 2271. In the lower right part of the document, Deed. appears in black. "John Rutter to Emmer Townsend for a lot on Darlington Street in West Chester" is handwritten below "Deed." On the left side of the verso "Recorded in the Recorder's office of Chester...in Deed Book C. 6. vol. 125 page 216 May 6th/56 Witness my hand and the seal of said office at W. Chester Robt. F. Hoopes. Recor." appears.

Account book. Fine, modern European hand in dark brown or black ink. Writing on front and back of both pages in 4 columns. First column contains the names of places. Second column contains months. Third column contains names. Fourth column contains a run of numbers which likely index page numbers corresponding with each individual (124-337). Some names and months are corrected: the original writing is covered with tiny pieces of paper or parchment which contain corrections.

Legal document confirming that Guillaume Le Mire is in possession of goods of Pierre Le Mire, deceased, against claims of Jehanne La Thienie (defendant). High Gothic hand. Brown ink. Document begins with a 5-line decorative capital "I" in dark brown ink. The initial paragraph explains the legal dispute, and subsequent paragraphs list the items of property in question. Each paragraph is separated by 3 blank lines. Parchment roll consists of 4 individual pieces of parchment attached by tan string. The verso contains writing: "Philips MS 32225" and a summary of the document in brown ink in Gothic hand. Top of document is damaged. Some sheets of parchment are barely attached to one another. Blind ruling.

Charter of Richard son of Thomas de Staton granting land, etc., in Wrenthall (and other places) to Robert de Waliboure. Gothic bastard hand in brown ink. Bottom of the page is folded up (about 2 cm). A red wax seal is on this fold. Modern tape is underneath the seal. The verso is blank, save a word written in modern hand and "Phillips MS 36315." Old notes says 21. Edw. III.

Ecclesiastical Text. Feast of Saint Euphemia(?). Dark brown/black ink. The first line of the text of the recto begins with a cross-like symbol and is followed by a space. Remainder of the text begins with another cross. Text is badly slanted, and the size of the text is not uniform.Verso contains 6 lines of writing on the left side of the page in dark black ink. It seems to be in Arabic or Syriac.

Ecclesiastical letter. Cursive in brown ink. Text begins with an elaborate and large capital "R." First paragraph contains the greeting of the letter. "F Diocoesis Leodien" is written in the left margin. Also contained within the text are "de Bergh" and "Theodoro Coumans Diocoesis." A double-headed eagle seal impressed in red wax is attached near the bottom of the page, just to the right and above the signature. The date appears before the closing of the letter. Verso is glued down to another sheet and is unviewable.

Religious document. Baptism certificate for Daniel Gell, son of Jacob Gell and his wife Catarina. Fraktur. Main text in red and blue ink. Below the main text is smaller writing in blue ink. Main text is contained within a heart in yellow, red, and green ink. Outside of the heart and at the bottom of the page are two smaller hearts with writing in red ink. Flowers grow out of the hearts. Above the heart is an eagle grasping arrows and an olive branch. Below the main heart is a smaller, centered heart which contains "1829 den 2ten Tag November Johannes Bard." More flowers are above. Verso is blank.
