Emily Howland letter to Caroline F. Putnam
Addressed to Howland's friend Caroline F. Putnam, who spent most of her life running a school for African Americans in Lottsburg, Virginia. Written from the home of Emma V. Montgomery (nee Brown). Discusses Howland's trip to Washington by steamboat for a wedding that was postponed. Also remarks on visiting the Capitol with Thesta Dana and "the Misses Seaver." Says Howland was "mortified" that Putnam's lifelong companion Sallie Holley had published one of Putnam's private letters in the National Anti-Slavery Standard. Mentions Colonel Charles W. Folsom and Mr. Menard.
