Skaneateles July 12th 63
My dear friend
Mrs. Gibbons.
I have shipped
to Mr. Haydock this morning
a small box for the benefit of
your brave boys. I only wish it
were 4 times as much. In a
few days I hope to have 2 barrels
of Cider Vinegar, also a half barrel
of Pickles to send you. only a
few willing hands contribute, now
Copperheads rule here in our midst.
At any time, if I send you any
thing you wish to give to the
poor Freedmen, [underlined] Please do so [/underlined].
My object and desire is to relieve
suffering, without regard to color.
God, the same Father created us
all alike. May he protect and
bless you, as one of the noble of
[left side]
our once free and happy country.
And when your mission is ended
here, may we meet in that
"better land," where all is peace
is the prayer of your friend
Maria M Morgan
In answer to your question, respecting
the distance from [Maclean? Square],
it is 16 miles, and we hear nothing
of that young mans friends, I could
have written but supposed you
had done so. Poor boy. Perhaps
he is at rest in this. I am making
some raspberry vinegar to send you
to day, if only a little. My heart
aches for the [?] sufferers. I see by
the Jaspers you are to have some
Rebel prisoners too.
