My own dear brother
I am very
anxious to hear that thy boil is
better - I fear from the long time
since I heard of it, it may have
grown into a carbuncle - Pray
get well as soon as possible that
I may next [?] about time - If
any of you are sick I shall feel
like going right home - There
was no mail to night - I suppose
because the creek near Leonardtown
could not be crossed, as is
the case after pouring rains - there
was a fair deluge night before
last - some of “our boys” may
call upon you, but it is only
to see you because you are part
[left margin]
I shall hope for a letter tomorrow with news
that my brother is - Love to the dear ones
at home
[left page]
of [underlined] us [/underlined] - always let them see dear
Milbin - some of them are coming
back to nurse - they are genuine
good fellows - Please let James
[R?] at the earliest moment
that Dr Heger will be glad
to engage Corporal Williams
as nurse & hopes he will return
immediately - We are making extensive
arrangements for our wounded
- [Cooke?] is doing splendidly
Do or die seems to be his
motto - It is time such a General
made himself manifest.
[General Lockwood] & staff [underlined] re [/underlined] appeared
to night - he captured a rebel
reformed to day - has several
prisoners in [board?] - almost
daily, the captured from some
quarter are brought in -
I am indebted to the office
[right page]
of Tribune for packages of New York
papers - which are a great treat
to the men - Pray say I am very
grateful - the men especially so -
I am thinking of my dear brother
nervous with terrible boil - it
is in such a bad place - Rosa
troubled know what is best to
do about it, and Willie dear
boy sympathizing with his father
If dear Bot was there how gently
he would put the knitting needle
through his hair - Let the
boy rest - for in his short life he
knew enough of heart sorrow, and the
recollection brings gladness that his
last days (so many often) were
happy & almost without a cloud
His [?] should make us all
willing to let him sleep - Tell
my sister [?] his letter will be
forthcoming - there is enough to
say, but for me, so little time
to say it in - I think I will
give you the history of a day -
when I can - Sally has been doing
a great deal to day and has
gone to bed - she seems very well
as do all our nurses - Dr Heger
tells us all his [underlined] ups & downs [/underlined] - and
in a great many things consults us -
allows us the largest liberty, and
denies us nothing - Wagner was
a great pet, but we can find
no fault with Dr Heger -
What a treat a sight of your
dear faces would be - I was
wondering if we are to be refreshed
by a sight of Willie Julia &
Sister Rose -
Every my dear brother
thy devoted & truly loving Sister
A
