N.Y. [Staten Island] 11/64
My dear daughter
I assured
Miss Georgie Woolsey that
she should not be held
after next friday, [underlined] she [/underlined]
fixing that time (being
to weeks from the day
he talked together) as the
extent to think she could
give her services. I hope
therefore thou art able
to make some arrangement
that will enable me to fulfil
my agreement with her
If there is no other arrangement
which seems [underlined] in the light [/underlined]
put Mrs Burns, who will
act under thy direction
to April in A & B
[?]
[sideways along left margin]
Words would fail me in thanking Dr Wagner for
his many kindnesses to us all. He must feel
assured that
we are all grateful
& will
never forget
But I will
speak to him
by letter.
Ward 10 can do without her
and I know Clara will look
into Dr Mortstans ward
at the most difficult
cases. I have written
to Mrs Parrish & the place
will soon be filled
Say to [Caroline Woolsey]
that she promises
so much in the way of service,
judging from observation,
that I hope her
friends will not at every [?]
the fulfilment of her wishes,
as well as the excesses
of her gifts.
The news of this
morning that mother [?]
is a little better, we all rejoice
in, say to Anna I am
with her by day & by night
my faith is not shaken, for
like Harriet. I see in waking dreams, anxious
moments, yes [underlined] hours [/underlined], but the light
gleams through all. The Angel of Patience
will carry me over all.
I have had several
letters from Mrs Dana & others at Washington
numbering not less than a dozen
Home been bored to death by the Surgeon
in Charge of Blackwells Island until I
have promised to pass 5th day there, and
set other people to work. The Sanctuary
Now he set me but so much time has
filled up that I cannot believe I have
been at home but a little more than a
week for it seems three long months &
then relations have penned in torrents &
tomorrow night Aunt Kate on her way to
California, to sail the next day.
To day I passed the Home, tomorrow
Julia takes me by force to Staten Island for
my lovely Photograph. 5th day to Blackwells
&c &c. Julia takes the keeping of
the home, that I am here to fill up a vacancy,
& do outside work, still I see
she finds comfort in my presence and I am
content

Ever thy loving mother!
