New York Nov 7/70
My dear daughter Sally
The Bureau arrived in excellent
condition, and is a very good
looking & spacious piece of furniture
- It contained thy shawl
&c - also the apples which I
shall not have opened until thy
return - and also the apples
at the Home - I paid Edward
for the freight, Expressage
&c I will see the apples
belonging to the Home paid for
but shall wait to hear from
thee, as Edward Russell says
they cost $12 - while I thought
they were to cost more
I shall hope to hear from
Cambridge, and shall also hope
to wite to Robert & Mother
and others - which I have had
[left side]
no opportunity to do for we
have been beset by beggars and
Kings - so to speak I am so
fond of the people, and distrustful
of the rebel and
effect that I took it more
composedly than the more [ast?ative?]
members of the
family -- The Philadelphia
is to retire into private life
the cost of this week, and
his whereabouts is not to be
known to all -
Aunt Sarah has just
left this house - arrived
at 40th st 6th day, and
called on aunt Rachel yesterday
and here to day and home
this evening - Henry with her
It is supposed she came to
wail upon the last named
individual - [Residents?] to
be related when thee comes
[right side]
Do sit right down and write
to Uncle Edward - he has been
sick for two weeks, and feels
lonely & down - I may send
off and pass a few days with him
and do write to poor aunt
Lizzy who has said in her
two last letters, that Sally
would write, if she knew
how much good a letter did
her -
Thy father is in good
condition mind & body, and
when the Election is over will
be still more content -
I have had the pleasure of
training two near dumb sticks
and feel much better off than
with the former incumbents
both of whom went for a look
Do see as much of Langdell
as possible and do the
right thing by the Greeneye
I thought thee made a woeful
mistake not to go there as
they suggested - but thee may
be right after all, but I
can’t see it -
Encourage Mr Langdell
and tell him I shall look for
him a [Chuster’s] week
I was very sorry not to see
more of him -
I will write
again in a day or two -
great haste & love to
very dear friends
Thy loving
Mother
