New York June 19/70
My dear daughter Sally
Thy letter came today
and I was glad thee was having
such a good time. Please say
to Bessie that really there is not
one laundress at the Home I
could recommend, but if one
turns up I will let her know at
once. There has been such a call
for women we have not been able
to supply anything like the demand
The Philosophy is better, has missed
his child, and all things regarding
him look up. Mr Yardenbell
has just called, last [evening] Theodore
Tritter, the elegant Mrs Lorena C Bullon
with her father & mother, they drove
up at 9 P.M in style, stayed ashore
& departed
Last [evening] thy father
Julia & Bessie Beach went to
Colombia College [entertainment?]
Last voice from James & Lucy
to the effect that if we do not
accept Rose Wagner, it will be impossible
to have visits exchanged
That they were to go to Newport
yesterday for a month & then to
Hubbardston, Rose going to
Newport with them, they would
prefer to say good bye in person
but could not while I felt
toward Rose unfriendly, & all
my first impulse was to say
you are a couple of children
stop disciplining the old folks,
and practice a little self discipline
and decent control, but after
weighing it, decided not to put
anything on paper, but submit
quietly. Julia bailed over and
the result was, words, not tears,
and I was thankful. I must
say I was disappointed to find Mr
Morse yet a child.
How wise it is to be with Anne Sever. She
is pure gold. [Pen?] & Addy were here last [evening]
Addy is coming tomorrow (Sunday) to tea, and
we are going to invite Wilson & Sarah & friend Powell
Sam H. goes out to Annie, soon on my black
eye is letter I shall go to aunt Lizzy, did I
tell thee I bobbed against the comer of Julia's
[breneon?], and that I am the worst looking Homeree
thee ever saw, better to delay a few days
than to view my reputation. Dr Folsom
called the day after thee left and was delighted
to hear of thee as among the mountains.
WIth love to dear peoples thy loving [underlined] Mother [/underlined]
