Primarily notes and letters in Martha Schofield's handwriting concerning instances of racial violence in South Carolina, including the Hamburg and Ellenton Riots. The 1876 Hamburg and Ellenton riots were instances of widespread violence perpetrated against African Americans at the end of the Reconstruction era, leading to multiple deaths. Includes a copy of a letter by Milly Bush about her murdered husband David Bush.
