Martha Schofield letter to "Friends"
Martha Schofield writes that she is rejoicing at the news that the "American schoolmarms" are rebelling. Though the recipients may not know her name, Schofield says that she attended the N.E.A. (National Education Association) in 1869 and is a life-long member. She adds that it had upset her that the organization was led by men and she voiced that opinion when she spoke at several events and wrote a letter to the officers of the Association.
