Lydia Schofield was Martha Schofield's sister. She wrote Martha this letter to be read while travelling back to Aiken, South Carolina from her family home in Darby, Pennsylvania. She expresses her love for Martha and her admiration for her and all the good work she is doing. She feels sympathy for Martha after the marriage of her closest friend Sadie Brouwer Bartram.
