Handwritten copy of a letter from Lucretia Mott on the letterhead of her son-in-law Edward M. Davis; the original is located in the Heacock Family papers, SFHL-RG5-060. The last lines of the Lucretia Mott letter to the Heacocks, dated January 2, 1863, are visible on A00182593_1. The original January 2, 1863 Mott letter is scanned as item A00182005. Written from Roadside. Addressed to Annie Heacock and either Jane or Gayner Heacock (refer to "Selected Letters of Lucretia Coffin Mott", edited by Beverly Wilson Palmer). Says that Mott is sending supplies for the African-American freedmen the Heacocks are teaching in Port Royal, South Carolina; commends the sisters for their work; remarks on the reversal of opinion about African-Americans; references the recent draft riot in New York City; and comments on the education of her grandchildren.
