Wayside 11 [month] 6th — 6th. day — Walter did come out tonight, as we hoped — [bringing] no other
than good tidings from Anna & [children] — — He & Anna Davis are now at the farm [visiting]
[Eliza Wright Osborne] in particular, and the others in general — They all — [Elizabeth Cavender] & 3 [children] included,
dined with us [yesterday], to welcome me home — such a 2 [weeks] absence — we all saw all
our [children] & [grandchildren] [yesterday] a most [gratifying] sight — & very [pleasant] to have [Eliza Wright Osborn
to make one of the party — & [again] today — [Marianna Pelham Mott] [having] gone to town to see to their house —
She has written every [thing] that my sheet contains, save the [Baltimore] minute [account] —
So you must have a good time with "Thompson's news" — Never mind, [Anna Coffin Temple Brown]
has only heard half, & if she thinks it not worth [sending] off to Auburn, she may burn
it — I [thought] you'd like to see [Anna Mott Hopper]'s style — but dont believe she really did
take it so hard — she enjoyed every day — & said it was wonderful to herself, how
the time had passed — when she [could] sit with Augusta, 'in the quiet,' it was Paradise.
[Thomas Mott] & Lizzy Stanton [Elizabeth Cady Stanton] are [having] an active [correspondence] — a list of [clothing] & jewelry
& [description] of [everything] she sent — [which] [Thomas] has taken to the Mayor & Police —
We fear we shall never more hear of them — I dont cease to feel very bad about it —
I shall write after [waiting] a few days in hope — [Tomorrow] we go to Trenton — on
2nd. day back to the city to [Quarterly Meeting] — 3rd day ditto — home that [evening]. We all
mean to go in to hear Curtis on 5th. day [evening] — [Anna Mott Hopper] & Lue [Lucretia Mott Hopper] are [coming] out next week
to do up a lot of [sewing] & rest from their Fall-[cleaning] labors — Mother Hopper is [recovering] —
[Maria Hopper] came but this [evening] to stay till 2nd. day — [Maria Mott Davis] was in town today, to
sign a deed — Anna D. has 7 music pupils — she is always cheerful, & anticipates
[coming] as does Lue H [Lucretia Mott Hopper] — & I doubt not they will have fine times — Anna is just
[making] up a party [Anna Coffin Davis Hallowell], Anne Wharton &.c — while Lue [Lucretia Mott Hopper] is out here —
Eliza writes all about their parties at the Farm — & how sick Isaac Pugh was
& how few went after all the [preparation] — & how her machine wont work.
John & Kate are [coming] there on 1st. day — [Ellis Yarnall] & [Margaret Harrison Yarnall] — when the rain ceases — if
[Thomas Mott] & [Marianna Pelham Mott] are not moved in first — [Josiah Cottringers] Place was tried at Auction
the other night. [Thomas Mott] bid $11.000 — [Thomas Cavender] 11.600 — It was bidden in — not sold —
Fraley is [moving] in today — to the house in Arch St — 2 doors above ours — Wilstachs
[Charles Ogden] has moved next door to [Robert Mapsey]’s — [Thomas Williamson] has moved into
Anne Morrison’s — & she into Cousin Dawson’s — — Pattie says tell Aunt Martha
they agree with her as to those Articles in the Atlantic Monthly — Our men are
full of Seward’s speech & the late Elections — — Parker Pillsbury has abused
us [Pennsylvanians] in the Standard — Read Miller’s reply — Walter & Anna have
returned with [Eliza Wright Osborne] & [Thomas], & are all [talking] together — [Elliston Rorot?] detected
robbers with horse & wagon — they made off [leaving] horse & wagon —
Now Anna dear write to us — also to Aunt M — It is only just double
& thou can put in a whole sheet — Thou’lt see I have improved on “Aunt Sa’s” hint
& directed my letter aright — rather late in the day — to be sure — but seeing there
are so few to advocate Woman’s [underlined] whole [/underlined] cause, it is needful for some to be
ultra — so I have become quite a defender of [surname underlined] Lucy Stone’s [/underlined] name —
