Lucretia Mott letter to Martha Coffin Wright and her children
Written from Roadside. In addition to giving her sister Martha news of family and friends, Lucretia Mott discusses recent social engagements with "old abolitionists" including Sarah Pugh, Elijah Pennypacker, Graceanna Lewis, and Gertrude K. Burleigh; politics and the war; the Christmas gifts her grandchildren received; John William Colenso's recent book on the scriptures and her own opinion on theological issues; charity work being undertaken for the African-American freedmen in Port Royal and Washington, D.C.; James Freeman Clarke and Robert Collyer; and a "home for colored children," possibly the Association for the Care of Coloured Orphans.
