Ramadan Iftar (Breakfast)
$250
Ramadan is traditionally a time of communal gathering to share a meal at iftar (breakfast) time with
family and friends after a day of fasting. Due to the difficult circumstances of this year posed by the
pandemic and its evolving nature, the MSA would like to purchase individually packaged meals from a
local restaurant and gather safely (social distancing, masking, and handwashing precautions taken) in an
on-campus space such as an outdoor tent to break our fasts together an evening or two in Ramadan.
This, we feel, would give us a needed sense of community and togetherness during the sacred month
which many of us are accustomed to spending with our families and friends at home in typical years.
Guest Speakers
$1000 (inflated)
The MSA would like to invite guest speakers to host virtual events in which topics such as the
intersection between student life and religious life, how to navigate academic and personal challenges
as a Muslim, and maintaining iman (faith) in a society where that faith is socially stigmatized are
explored. Qaid Hassan (qhassan@haverford.edu), a Haverford alum and MSA leader, plans to work with
the Sociology department to compose a list of speakers and invite them to virtual functions that would
be beneficial for the community on campus to engage in, Muslim and non-Muslim students and staff
alike. Funding is kindly requested so we can pay these speakers for their time and preparation.
Next Steps:
-
Use $250 to fund Ramadan iftar events for on-campus MSA members
Create a list of guest speakers based on themes of discussion
- Determine their availability
- Determine the charge
- Submit a weekly funding request form 2 weeks prior to the event
