Ahlam Houssein
INTRODUCTION:
Asalam alaikum wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh.
Thank you for joining us, everyone, and Ramadan Mubarak to those in observance.
I’d like to take a moment to introduce our guest speaker today, Dr. Besheer Mohamed.
Dr. Mohamed is a senior researcher at the Pew Research Center. With expertise in the
field of religion and public life as well as computational science, he examines the views,
demographic profile, and size of Muslim communities in the US through his various
works. Dr. Mohamed received his doctorate in sociology and master’s degree in Middle
East Studies from the University of Chicago and a Bachelor of Science degree in
engineering from Cornell University. He has appeared in numerous media outlets and
regularly briefs policymakers, academics and other important stakeholders. He has also
published in traditional academic publications through Oxford University Press and
NYU Press, along with the American Sociological Association’s magazine, Contexts.
Let’s welcome Dr. Mohamed as he speaks to us today about a focal point in his research
and a critical aspect of the intersection between religion and race: faith-based reactions
to anti-black racism.
SALUTATIONS & CLOSE-OFF:
Alright, with that we will conclude our question session! I’d like to extend my thanks to
Dr. Mohamed for his time and thoughtfulness in speaking with us today, and thank you
all for your engagement as an attentive audience. Dr. Mohamed, we appreciate what
you’ve taught us and hope to host more events of this kind in the future to continue
learning from your insight and perspective.
Once again, Ramadan Mubarak to my fellow Muslim friends, and blessed day to you all.
Take care, everyone!
