Hi Tom,
I am often filled with gratitude for all that the staff at Haverford does for the students, and rarely more often than Dining Center staff.Thank you for your piece.
I am writing to start a conversation about support of Muslim students during Ramadan this semester which will run from April 12 to March 11th.
According to the Muslim advisor, there is a solid group of 5-6 students who are actively engaged with MSA activities and maybe another 5-6 other Muslim students
who might participate.
In past years, the Dining Center prepared special meals for Muslim students during Ramadan with hallal meat and a more traditional spice base which students
could pick up after sundown. Pre-COVID they would eat in the Presidents lounge and have time for prayer together. Last year, I understand they simply took it back
to their rooms, along with a pre-packaged breakfast which they could eat before sunrise in the morning.
I am hoping that we can arrange for that again this year. I would be happy to facilitate getting students to sign up for the program>
The reason that I am hoping that the students can pick their food up after sunset is that the religious advisor and I are hoping to organize an approved outdoor
space for the students to eat together and practice their prayers and still have relatively warm food to eat.
I look forward to hearing from you and exploring these possibilities.
With gratitude,
Walter
