Dear faculty,
Thank you for the discussion at today’s faculty meeting. As a result of the many constructive and
clarifying points and questions raised, VP and Chief of Staff Jesse Lytle, on my behalf, emailed the strike
organizers at 2:17pm to say we agreed to all their stated stipulations for the meeting for tomorrow,
Thursday, Nov. 5 at 3pm EST and hoped it could go forward. We included a few clarifying questions
regarding the process, and I recognize that my response came late relative to the timeline of publicly
releasing an agreed-upon agenda 24 hours in advance. I am hopeful that despite the questions (would a
less-than 24-hour release of the agenda work, given the timeframe we were on?; in “… mechanisms for
how the meeting will be available for all to view,” does “all” mean the full campus or the posted publicly
on the internet; and would a Zoom transcript work as the mechanism (following the meeting, Linda
Strong-Leek articulated a concern about exposing members of our community, and in particular BIPOC
community members, to the broader public in light of concerns about trolling from beyond our
community, for example from alt-right groups.)
I thank you for your encouragement to create a way forward toward an opportunity for dialogue.
