My dear, I was too busy to get off to town so will see G.W.C. tomorrow before TrusteesGÇÖ meeting. I fully expect Ph. Garrett to bring up something frightful tomorrow after I leave but we shall see. I enclose my samples $1.50 a yard at WalmeleyGÇÖs. The two pinned together are Lemonniers. I like the green a little. Now there is Dr. Collotz and Noerrenberg the German [illegible] who wrote about the Sauppe Library in the Nation. He says Adelbert wanted to buy it and Cornell cabled for it so it will be very good news if we really have it. The letter ought to come this week. I like the one sample with a pin in it the best donGÇÖt you. Your two samples I like very much. They have gone after one hour and my writing time has gone - alas - Your long letter was very welcome so very welcome, my dear. You do not say how you feel - how are you? No answer about my Swede I wrote for a reference. I wonder if she had not better go on tomorrow for you to try her massage. If so telegraph me and the hour you could see her. She is green of course but very eager and whether efficient I do not know think not. All depends if Dr. Wh - could teach Miss L - massage. I have not a moment as the days go by to think or read or live. Here is a note such as I get all the time, and what is to be done? As you saw from the notices the only one that has appeared - and those notices were mine by the way that I mailed you the Tribune had a small notice a hateful student whose name I cannot discover sends the most hateful notices to this Tribune - always most unsuitable. I have determined to stop her now if I have to write to the paper. Tomorrow will be a blank and Sat I must shop. Another entertainment in the Gymnasium tomorrow night and then a rest for 2 days except the shopping. Then Monday night 18 The Fellows and Grad Garrett scholars come down to talk over the formation of a Graduate Club and to eat ice cream, Wed night the Symphony Concert and Thursday morning M and I are going away somewhere perhaps to Atlantic City perhaps to New York - only my chief objection to that is that you will be there and I do not wish to see you unless I can see you which is impossible. So Alice and Robbie are not to be in my cathedral room (You have not sent her letter though you said you did). How glad I am. I cannot help being glad, can I? Nor in my gallery, nor in my room, though no one else will be there, alas. We must wait. William Armitage by some good luck is -+ hour late so I have had a moment after all to tell you how little I have to tell. Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye. I cannot write tomorrow unless on the train for after the TrusteesGÇÖ meeting I am fitted. [telegraph] Did you sent check answer care Charles Hartshorne Lehigh Valley Vice Presidents office. Letter from M. Carey Thomas to Mary Elizabeth Garrett, December 07, 1893
M. Carey Thomas writes to Mary Garrett about her plans for the week, including dress shopping, and sends her some fabric samples with the letter. Thomas complains about a student sending angry letters about Bryn Mawr to a newspaper. A telegram from Thomas to Garrett asking her to send a check is included with the letter.
