Written to Howland's niece Isabel. Discusses Howland's prot&eaccute;g&eaccute;e Sidney Taliaferro Boyer, an African American woman who was about to leave for Northumberland County, Virginia, to work as a teacher for freedmen. Passes on other news of friends and family.
