Written from the Contraband Camp. Addressed to "Anna, Mary, and Emily," possibly including Anna Searing. Describes the author's recent illness, their activities in the Contraband Camp (''contraband'' was a term used during the Civil War to refer to formerly enslaved people who had escaped to Union lines), and their interactions with other aid workers. Relates interactions with Julia Wilbur and Harriet Jacobs as well as several reverends of whom the author was skeptical. Also discusses hearing an excellent sermon.
