Possibly written by Elizabeth D. Leonard (1807-1879). Thanks her for the book, which she praises and has lent out to others. Glad that Gibbons and her daughter Sally have returned to work as Civil War nurses for wounded soldiers. Recommends a young lady who wishes to volunteer as an educator for slaves/contrabands ("Contraband" was a term used during the Civil War to refer to formerly enslaved people who had escaped to Union lines).
