Boston Nov 4/67
Dear Julia
Did I tell thee that
Mrs Parkmon Mrs Estes Howe
Cutler, Hill Dom Sindain, Dr & Mrs
Briggs & daughters, and less considerable
called upon me at Dr Walker's
a note come from the [inimitable?]
Judge Russell inviting me to go to the
school ship yesterday, which I had
postponed, as I wanted to hear
Mr Hepworth [upon?] [Go?] Anderson and
in the afternoon Sally & self had a
delightful drive with Mr & Mrs [Drury?]
In the [evening] we went early to hear
the memorial service at Maurice
Hall. I shall have the papers
to tell you at cut it. I saw the
great organ & heard it, all the
addresses were excellent & spoken
with great feeling. The Hall was
densely crowded, and it was said
as many went away, not finding
even an entrance.
allow me to do justice to
Dr Walker. I misunderstood
him when he said he did not
[underlined] want [/underlined] women to vote, he said
he would rather [underlined] married [/underlined] women
would not vote, and thought
[underlined] un[/underlined]married women should vote
now, & they always [underlined] should [/underlined] have
voted, that [underlined] he [/underlined] would grant
them the [purchase?] which would
as surely come to them, as the vote
in favor of the Lyceum Lectures
in Cambridge. It seems he was
appointed to say to the women
[underlined] no [/underlined] in the most decided manner
who the question [?] presented
He complied with the instruction
adding "be patient, I know you
will [underlined] have [/underlined] the [?] in a very
short time, I see it on its way"
We leave for Salem this day
at 4 oclock. Sally is nicely.
I am going to the Barnards this morning for
a little while. The brisk cold weather will do
more for thy fathers back than anything else
November is a chilly month, and gives small hope
[Robert Burns] calls it "gloomy November," but this
morning proves it not all so
Thou will find Mrs Dana at
no 29 West 18th st
My best love to my dear boy Willie, and
the [underlined] Seventeeners [/underlined]. Tell [?] he is a brave little
boy, and tell them all I want to see them
I shall find Mr & Mrs Prowe without fail
