Rebecca Lewis Fussell was Graceanna Lewis' sister. It is their deceased sister Mariann Lewis' birthday, and Lewis reflects on her life. She is concerned about the recent health issues of Samuel Mifflin, the husband of her friend Hannah Wright Mifflin. She is unsure if she will be asked to return to teach at the Foster School for Girls next year.
