Eliza Schofield was Martha Schofield's sister. Martha writes about hiking up Mount Pisgah in Asheville while on vacation in North Carolina. She discusses her upcoming plans which include going to Columbia for a women's suffrage meeting during the South Carolina Constitutional Convention, going to Baltimore for the Purity Congress and the National Woman's Christian Temperance Union, and possibly going to the Atlanta Exposition. She shares that the artist Thomas Hovendon has died and praises his life and work, particularly his painting "The Last Moments of John Brown." She encourages Lydia to find work illustrating books.
