My dear, Your note today which I read with Father and Dr. Rhs sitting before me in chapel was rather dreary and I myself am dreary a little through stress of work. The Ex. Com was hateful Father said. Dr. Rh. did not open his mouth, had not brought with him D. Sculls resolution, and altogether sat through with an utterly exhausted air Ph. Garrett and Chas. Hartshorne were unutterably hateful. Father said but Ed. Bettle could not have been nicer. They carried the salary and the resolution that I should be present at all meetings of the Board GÇ£except when officially notifiedGÇ¥ but Dr. Rh had forgotten all about the Committees. Father says it goes without saying but it does not and there will be another deadlock. Dr. Rhoads had my resolution written off in his pocket. I gave it too [sic] him not 2 hours before so I cannot understand it. I suppose it will mean another struggle. Father was here all last evening and this morning till meeting time at Haverford and then at luncheon and left at 2:15 and before he left Margaretta MacVeagh came in and staid [sic] till 3 and then we walked till 4 and then the office till 5 and I had no chance to see him. Oh I wish almost I had never entered in this hateful fight. Asa Wing looks sure and the 4 opponents are fighting him so strongly that it looks as if they felt sure he would be liberal. D. Sc., Dr. Rh, Ed. B. Uncle James and Father make 5 to 4, even if Chas. Taylor is too ill to come, so it seems sure but one can never tell. So much for a disgusting subject. I am so sorry about Miss Davis and all the rest of the annoyances. It is a category of misfortunes. Before you leave I want you to tell Dr. O Durvan that you wish your aunts to leave as soon as safe. Otherwise he will keep them there the whole year when they could easily be moved. This you can give the disturbance in the household etc etc your work, the heat of the house, etc. Please do this. He may think you want to keep them and it would alter his whole point of view. I simply cannot bear it - unless they are gone when you return. The Easter holidays are from Mch 20 to Mch 28 this year, Easter comes on the 25th Margaretta says Mr. Childs has been unconscious from the first and is paralised, that Da Costa says there is no hope but that he must not be quoted as saying this. No nothing shall interfere with week after next. Come if you can tomorrow as I am afraid you will otherwise be unwell but do not come a moment before your throat is well. I am very tired from FatherGÇÖs visit, though he was very nice and though I am so very sorry for him. I think it is inconceivably hard to lose the one person in the world one loves and that has been his fate. And now goodnight my beloved
