Written from Roadside. Lucretia Mott shares news and describes recent events involving family and friends. She says Anna Hopper keeps very busy with her work at Swarthmore. Mott recently saw Laura De Force Gordon speak and describes her as not having "the magnetic power" of some other speakers. She also describes dreading having to meet Gordon as she does every new acquaintance, but she rejoices that "this new generation of advocates have the field." Partially written over a letter from Martha Mellor to "Maria" (possibly Martha Mellor Davis to Maria Mott Davis) asking to borrow her mortar and pestle.

Martha Schofield met Sadie Brouwer Bartram in 1859 while teaching at a school in Harrison, New York, and the two remained close friends. She expresses concern for Bartram in regards to father's abusiveness. She describes her activities over the past week, including caring for the corpse of an unidentified woman. She speaks at length about her admiration for Anna E. Dickinson and the good work she is doing for the country.

Lydia A. Schofield and Sarah J. Ash were Martha Schofield's sisters. Lydia discusses their mother's visit to Martha in Aiken and events at home in Philadelphia. Alfred Love has asked Lydia to write an annual report for the Universal Peace Union. Sarah discusses her search for servants, criticizes a sermon given by Rachel Rogers, and mentions Rachel Wilson Moore Townsend. "I like a peaceable cheerful religion, easy to practice and live up to every day, rather than something as hard, as gloomy and dark, that one doesn't care to follow."

Anthony stay with her while in the area to give a speech, noting that it was the first time Anthony set foot on South Carolina soil. She discusses the speech Anthony gave to a packed house of both men and women in which she talked about politics and the need to give women the right to vote. She also writes about the additional guests she had stay with her for the event, including Serena Minard, Robert and Annie Tilney, and Emily Howland. She describes showing her guests around her school and notes that Howland, who had also run a school for African Americans, remarked that she had never seen a school managed with such economy. Schofield notes that after she received payment from all of her guests she gave her servant Ann an extra three dollars, and she says that it gives her pleasure to pay those who work hard for her and who need an income. She closes the letter with a note to save the letter as "evidence of Womans Suffrage Movement in Aiken."

Antoinette Brown Blackwell spoke to a full house at the Annual Meeting. Discusses J. B. Toulmin's [sp] interest in abolitionism and his support of Fanny Wright's "mission and experiment" for African Americans. Mentions receiving correspondence from Griffith M. Cooper, Elizabeth Pease Nichol, and Harriet Martineau. Mentions her daughters hemming sheets for the "Colored Home, Sydney Howard Gay, and Jessie White Mario. A Mrs. Young is holding an anatomy and physiology lecture in Philadelphia.
