Description:
Mary Ash Jenkins was Henry Ash's sister, and Sarah Ash was their mother. Henry Ash was superintendent of the Schofield School run by his aunt Martha Schofield. He writes to his sister about his troubles registering to vote in Aiken and the recent presidential election. He says if he had been able to register he would not have voted for the temperance party. He talks about his life in Aiken and wants to know how Mary is getting along with her studies. He tells his mother that he is still grieving the death of his brother, Samuel Earl Ash. He asks her to deposit money into his bank account. He adds that he is glad Schofield is getting much needed rest while she is away, but everyone at the school is looking forward to her return.
