She then speaks of her health, and states that she hopes that Thomas's eye troubles are being solved. She closes by saying that she was able to hear a few lectures at the School, and that she was generally pleased by them.

She encourages Thomas to not tie herself to the College if they do not appoint her President and add her to the Board of Trustees after Dr. Rhoads steps down. She apologizes for taking so long to finish writing this letter, explaining that she has been feeling blue. She starts to explain why, but at least two pages of the letter are missing, as Thomas destroyed them at the request of Garrett.
