M. Carey Thomas writes to Mary Garrett, who was then in Baltimore, Maryland, from Stuttgart, Germany. She describes the events of the last several months, detailing her travels through Europe, and writes of receiving her Ph.D. for her thesis on the work Sir Gawayne and the Green Knight from the University of Zurich. Thomas has been traveling/living in Europe with Mamie Gwinn, one of her closest companions. She mentions that her friend, Gertrude Mead, will also be joining them shortly. She also writes in great detail of her love for the paintings of Dante Gabriel Rossetti.
