Schofield is giving away many of her possessions to her niece and nephew (Jenkins and Henry Ash) because she feels that she no longer needs to own so many things. She relates that she received a gift of a silver flower stand but sold it and put the money she made from it in her school's treasury. She invites Jenkins to come stay with her after commencement has passed and help her clean and organize her home. She also discusses her large collection of books and writes about how important reading has been to her. She recalls that when she was a teenager her mother would make her and her sisters read out loud from the Anti-Slavery Standard.
