Description:
Two Papal Bulls and epistles relating to the request of the decree. Clement VII allows two cousins, Antonio de Herrera (son of Guero de Herrera and son of Ana de Mercado) and Barbara de Herrera, to wed. All of the documents are sewn together with a white thread that feeds into each hole at a sharp angle. The first document is a rather modern Spanish description of the contents of the document, in cursive, in dark brown ink. It is made of paper and creates the front and back page of the grouping. The verso of the first page is blank. The sheet that serves as the back cover of the document contains another summary of the document in Spanish, and its verso is blank. The second document is a single page of paper, in dark brown ink, in Spanish. It contains three paragraphs, followed by a signature, and a fourth paragraph (a postscript) with the same signature after it. The recto is blank. The third document is a half sheet of paper, written in cursive in dark brown ink with at least one signature. Writing on both sides. The fourth document is a half sheet of paper in cursive in dark brown ink with two signatures at the bottom. The recto is blank. The fifth document contains cursive in dark brown ink with two signatures on paper. The folio is a full page, but the writing consumes only the top half. The sixth document is in cursive in dark brown ink, 3/4 of a page of paper, and contains three signatures. The verso is blank. The seventh document is a papal bull on parchment in Gothic hand, with dark brown ink. Latin. Metal point ruling. A (tin?) metal bulla in the shaped like an eye is attached through two holes by means of a thick brown twine. The eighth document is another papal bull in black ink on parchment with metal point ruling. The bulla of this document is also metal and in the shaped like an eye. This metal bulla looks like a box with no lid, whereas the one attached to the seventh document is flat and lid-like. The twine attaching the bulla is finely braided.

Legal document concerning heirs, lands, and buildings. Gothic bastard hand. Brown ink. Recto: The main text, about 132 lines long, begins with an initial "I" that is thick for 4 lines and trails thinly down the left margin for 8 more lines. Hash marks decorate the initial. The spacing of the document is quite wide at the top, but it gradually diminishes toward the end of the document. Below the main text is a space, followed by 7 lines of writing. To the left of this paragraph is a penwork notarial seal that resembles a compass. Below this is another space, followed by a paragraph of 6 lines that begins with a 6-line initial "P." Below this is another space and a paragraph of 4 lines. To the left of this paragraph is a penned notarial seal identical to the one above. Verso of this document has writing in multiple hands from different time periods in black and brown ink . Included in this writing is "Jayme Gargallo...de Canarie, the date 15 Mayo 1425" and Anthony de Molinos." Two pieces of parchment have been sewn together to form one page. This seam is horizontal. A tear on the bottom right side of the page has been stitched together. [Proper names included in the document: Jacobi Gargallo...de Caranie and (perhaps) Anthony de Molinos (?).]

Signed letter from King Philip III of Spain to Sebastian de Oliago (?), furnisher of provisions for his armada. Cursive. Brown ink. In the center of the line above the main body of the text, an undecipherable word appears. On the recto, a 2.5 cm left margin exists, and the text runs right up to the edge of the right side of the page. The signature of King Philip III of Spain appears in a dark brown ink, just below the end of the text. Writing at the bottom right of the page in a second hand. Bottom of the page contains a dark ink signature(?), and a rather modern Spanish summary of the document is written in two lines along the bottom edge of the page. A large 4.5 cm diameter hole goes through the bottom half of all of the pages, but the letter and signature of the king are not damaged. Verso of the first page and the recto of the second page is blank. The verso of the second page contains a modern English summary of the document in pencil. Perpendicular to this text and at the bottom of the page in dark brown ink is the date of the document, Del Rey Mo Senor, and 6 lines of Spanish text, possibly in the same hand as the main text of the document.
