Description:
Xerox copy of a letter from Anthony Benezet to Selina, Countess if Huntington. This letter is in regard to the orphanage in Georgia established and run by George Whitefield, under the patronage of the Countess. Whitefield had encouraged the colony of Georgia to end its prohibition of slavery. Benezet speaks of the inhuman treatment of slaves and expresses his views against the slave trade. He sends accounts of treatment of runaway slaves and asks the countess to treat her slaves kindly and support those trying to end the slave trade.
