Situation In an effort to solve the parking problem which Is becoming serious In tbe Borough, a majority of the members of the Swarthmore Business Association present at the meeting Monday night requested the secretary to write Borough Council asking them to investigate the possibility ofinstal\ing parking meters. Believing that Council Is as opposed to this drastic action as are the majority of citizens, some of the merchants hoped that Council would make a thorough study of this problem and make whatever changes were necessary BJid thea order a strict enforcement. One suggestion was that South Chester road west of the underpass be put on a two hour parklng limit until I p.m:, to elinilnate all day parking of out of town commuters. 4 That the question.' cannot be answered satisfoctorl\y without some study is the opinion of the merchants. and it was their hope that the Borough Secretary pass on the letler prIor to the Council meeting November 5 in order that some relief could be given as soon as possible. Early in the first quarter Swarthmore threaten.. ed to score after Clem Malin intercepted a pass in Springfield territory. A pass to Bruce Gemmill elicited for extra yardage. but a penalty pushed them back, stopping their drive. Later, apparently trapped behind the line on an attempted pass, Howard Shearer turned on the steam and ran 24 yards to Springfield's 14 yard line. Again the Garnet failed to carry the ball over. The Cougars took over deep in their own territory. Swarthmore's hard charging line led by Dick McCormack and Jim Tucker dealt out one loss after another to Springfield. COn their third down, Springfield, trying a fake kick, fumbled in their end zone. Dick McCormack grabbed the pigskin for a' Garnet touchdown. Howard Shearer made a sensational catch lor the extra point. In the second quarter Swarthmore continuously knocked at Springfield's goal line. On a short pass quarterback Jim Carter connected to Bob McHenry who lateralled to Shearer who went over lor the touchdown. However: a flag on the play cancelled the T.D. This event is now so traditional. that plsnoing ior windows and pictures has been underway for several weeks. The business district will be invaded next Monday by about 40 groups of students serected from the fourth grade through the Junior High School who w.il1 leave it looking much more decorative and ready for the Hallowe'en season. There will again be 100 percent participation by the local businesses with each store possible providing at least one window. They will be under the direction of the art teachers, Claudia Hancock and Ann Jane Cleaver. Because of the possibility of window breakage and because of the desire to do an outstanding job, it has been decided by the Businessmen and the art teachers to do the decoration on art paper which will then be attached to the windows. The center of the borough promises to be unusually at.tractive for the. three days just prior to Hallowe'en. The Recreation Association has selected as judges a committee consisting of Mrs. Clair Wilcox, Robert Walker, head of the College Art Department, Winifred Rumble and Nancy Sylvanus of the School of Industrial Arts. They plan to complete the judging &s early in the week as possible. The pictures will remain on display until after the Hallowe'en season is over. Richard Crowther, ET. 2, of Yale avenue, is stationed in Portsmouth, N.H., as Electronics Technician on the submarine Halfbeak. In Appreciation Morris E.
