[written later: Mrs. Tebbetts] Kingston July 22nd My dear Mr. Hopper. I did not hear at first of what had happened in 29th St. and it only came to me tonight, indirectly and with no details, that the house was sacked. I had felt anxious from the first but the account given in our papers [?] relieved me than otherwise. I had thought of writing to some of you or to Mr. Langdall but on seeing that gave it up. Now I feel as if I could not wait for details [left side] Where are the family and where were they then. How are they all. Was Mr. Gibbons or any one injured? Did they destroy the memorials of Willy in his room. What became of Mr. G's library. I have heard as [thing?] and one question after [?] [?] up to me for more than you can have time to answer. Will you not drop me a line or if you are too busy will not Edward write me something of what [right side] has happened and what now is. Will you give my love to Mrs. Hopper and Willy I hope they were both out of the city. John is well. Yours truly Ellen S. Tebbets, I enclose a note to Mr. Gibbons. I did not dare send to the house.
